178: The Curator & The Architect: A Better Way to Design Your Life
In this episode of "The Prestigious Initiative," host Chris Bean explores the difference between a successful person and a fulfilled person, guiding listeners through the process of designing a life that brings true fulfillment rather than just external success. By adopting the roles of a conscious creator and strategic architect, you can curate your time and attention to align with your core values and create a more meaningful existence.
Are You Successful or Fulfilled? The Curator & The Architect Framework
Hey everyone, today we're diving into the heart of what it means to truly live a fulfilling life beyond mere success. We'll challenge the conventional wisdom that equates busyness with achievement and explore how true fulfillment comes from design, not just planning.
What is the difference between a successful person and a fulfilled person? Picture a successful individual: impressive title, packed calendar, hitting all their goals. But let’s pause there for a moment. Is this success really worth the cost of feeling exhausted and unfulfilled?
The Curator's Role: Crafting Your Life Gallery
Let’s start by understanding your role as the curator. Your attention and time are priceless collections—limited and valuable resources that you must protect diligently. You’re not just letting anything into your gallery; you're making conscious decisions about what deserves space in it.
A Conscious Creator Doesn’t Just Let Anything Into The Gallery
Think deeply: What gives you genuine energy? It could be career success, a deep family connection, creative expression, or something entirely different. This isn't about societal expectations or Instagram likes—it's purely personal and about what truly fulfills you.
Once you've identified these sources of fulfillment, categorize them into five to eight core values. These aren’t tasks; they are domains of who you are—your vital health, professional mastery, impact on work, deep family connection, creative expression, financial peace, faith practice, play and adventure, or lifelong learning. Each value represents an essential part of your curated collection.
Ranking Your Values: The Crucial Curator's Decision
Now comes the tough part. Rank these values based on their importance to you right now. This isn’t about what is morally important but practically necessary given your limited time and resources. Which of these values deserves prime real estate?
For example, if creative expression ranks fifth and a work demand pulls you away from nurturing deep family connections (ranked first), this ranking gives clarity on where to allocate your attention.
The Architect's Role: Building Your Life Structure
Now that we've curated our gallery, it’s time to put the curator’s beret aside and don an architect’s hard hat. The role of the architect is to design a structure around these values so they remain accessible and prominent in daily life.
How Do We Architect A Life?
First, take your “why” statements for each value and convert them into powerful affirmations or declarations that can guide day-to-day decisions. Affirmations are present-tense statements that encapsulate the emotional significance of your values.
For instance, if health is crucial because you want to play with your kids without being winded:
I fuel and move my body with respect so I can show up with vibrant energy for the people that I love.
Or, if creative expression is essential to feel alive:
I honor my inner voice by creating something meaningful every day, no matter how small that thing is.
These affirmations become your blueprint for living your values.
Strategic Reminders: The Key To Success
Now we need to build strategic reminders into our daily routines and environments so these affirmations stay top of mind. We fail not because we don’t care but because we forget. Life happens, distractions abound, and it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. By embedding these values in your daily life through tangible actions, you create a protective structure around them.
For example:
Morning Routine: Start each day by reaffirming your top value.
Post-it Notes: Place reminders where you’ll see them often (e.g., "Fuel My Body" on the fridge).
Daily Journaling: Reflect and write about how you lived out these values today.
Your Call To Action
Take a moment to reflect: What is holding you back from living with full alignment? Are you living on autopilot, chasing someone else’s vision for success?
Challenge yourself to curate your life gallery by identifying your core values. Rank them based on current priorities and write powerful affirmations that encapsulate why these values are non-negotiable. Then design strategic reminders into your daily routine.
This framework isn’t just about achieving goals; it’s about crafting a life aligned with who you truly are and what brings genuine fulfillment.

Have you ever had a dream, a goal, or even just a task so big that the fear of failing at it... just froze you? You didn't just fear failure—you feared being a failure. That the outcome would become your identity.
So you stall. You over-plan. You wait for the perfect moment, the guaranteed path. And life... stays the same.
What if I told you there's a way to completely disarm that fear? To make failure not just safe, but useful? Even... fun?
It starts with changing the game you think you're playing.
Most of us approach life like it's a final exam—one big, high-stakes test where a wrong answer ruins everything. No wonder we're terrified.
But what if you treated your life less like an exam and more like a sandbox video game? In a game, your goal isn't to never die. It's to explore! To try wild strategies, to learn the mechanics, to see what's around the next corner. When your character dies, you don't weep and declare yourself a failure. You grin and say, 'Okay, learned that doesn't work,' and you hit 'Continue.'
What if the biggest leadership problem today isn’t lack of talent — but too much ego?
In this episode, Chris sits down with Kyle McDowell, former Fortune 10 executive who led over 15,000 employees and is now a Wall Street Journal & USA Today bestselling author of Begin With WE. After climbing from a tiny cubicle to the highest levels of corporate leadership, Kyle realized something uncomfortable: most leaders are trained to win for themselves, not for their people.
Kyle breaks down what WE-oriented leadership really looks like in practice, why principle-based leadership beats charisma every time, and how leaders can build cultures of accountability, excellence, and trust — without burning themselves or their teams out.
This conversation goes beyond tactics. It’s about identity, integrity, and the kind of leadership that actually lasts.
What if the biggest obstacle to your growth isn’t your marketing, your team, or your product — but your relationship with your numbers?
In this episode, Chris sits down with Nate Littlewood — former Wall Street analyst, bootstrapped founder of Urban Leaf, and host of Profits on Purpose. Nate now works with 7-figure eCommerce and CPG founders to help them stop avoiding their financials and start using them as a strategic advantage.
They break down the four stages of building a healthier relationship with your business finances, why ignoring your numbers quietly costs millions, and how smart founders use finance as a compass — not a constraint. This conversation goes beyond spreadsheets. It’s about identity, purpose, and making decisions that scale both your business and your life.
